Avatr

Avatr is a Chongqing-based premium electric brand. It began as a 50:50 Changan-Nio joint venture formed in 2018; Nio withdrew about two years later, and Changan then brought in CATL and Huawei and named the company Avatr¹. Avatr's own website, quoted by The Standard, shows Changan Automobile with 40.99% and CATL with 14.1%². Huawei is not a shareholder: it is described as a strategic partner supplying driving algorithms and cockpit technology¹². The money runs the other way: Avatr bought a 10% stake in Huawei's automotive unit Yinwang for RMB 11.5 billion³.

Avatr's cars sit on the CHN platform, a six-layer architecture for wheelbases up to 3,100 mm in rear-drive or four-wheel-drive form⁴.

The Avatr 07 comes as an electric car (82.16 kWh Shenxing LFP battery, 800 V, 610-650 km CLTC) or a range-extender (39.05 kWh battery, 1.5-litre turbo generator, 220-230 km electric range, about 1,100 km in total)⁵. The China version uses Huawei's Qiankun ADS 3.0 with 27 sensors, including a 192-line roof lidar⁵. The 07L shown in Paris has an 89.33 kWh CATL battery and 305 to 712 kW depending on version⁸.

These are maker figures on China's CLTC cycle. Coverage of the European plan does not say whether Huawei software will be fitted to export cars; the quotation will state it.

Wikipedia lists the Avatr 11 (2022), 12 (2023), 07 (2024), 06 (2025), and the 07L and 06T (2026)⁴. The 07, a mid-size SUV, launched on 26 September 2024 and took 11,673 non-refundable pre-orders in 20 hours⁵. The 06T is a 4.94 m estate and the 07L a 4.91 m five-seat SUV⁸. Avatr also showed the T09 concept, which is not confirmed for Europe⁸.

Wikipedia lists 73,606 cars for 2024 and about 120,000 for 2025, but the 2025 figure has no source⁴. For January-May 2026 the refiled Hong Kong prospectus shows 20,160 cars, of which 2,949 were overseas³. At the end of 2025 Avatr had over 80 outlets in 38 countries and regions³. Avatr 07 deliveries have reached Singapore, Thailand and the UAE⁶. On 18 July 2026 Kasrawy Group, named as Avatr's exclusive agent in Egypt, launched the 07 range-extender there⁷.

Europe comes next. Avatr plans to start in Norway and Spain in 2027 with the 06T and 07L, and the UK is also named⁸. It plans six to eight models over three years; reports differ⁹⁸. A Chinese battery-electric or range-extended car sold in the EU faces countervailing duty of 17.0% to 35.3% depending on the maker¹⁰.

On safety, Wikipedia reports a five-star China C-NCAP rating for the 2025 Avatr 07 Max RWD, 90.2% overall⁵. That is a Chinese test; we found no Euro NCAP result.

The finances are the weak side. For 2025 Avatr reported revenue of RMB 25.63 billion and a net loss of RMB 3.49 billion; losses since 2022 top RMB 13.2 billion. Cash fell from RMB 19.32 billion at the end of 2024 to RMB 6.25 billion on 30 April 2026³. The first Hong Kong prospectus lapsed in May 2026 and was refiled on 30 June³.

For service abroad, Avatr says it will work with local dealers, build a European spare-parts logistics system and offer roadside assistance⁹. We found no owner reports on service quality in its export markets.

Avatr suits buyers who want a design-led luxury SUV with CATL batteries and the choice of electric or range-extender power, in markets served by an appointed distributor. It suits less well a buyer who weighs the brand's heavy losses, or who needs an established service network in a market where Avatr has just arrived.
