From 2026 battery-electric cars are exempt from import duty and VAT (electrive, 11 Aug 2026); sources conflict on plug-in hybrids and range extenders, which are still shown at the normal rates — to be confirmed.

Exports go through a Chinese export company (export agency, named in the contract), which handles the export licence, customs, inspection and shipping. Since 2026 pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence.

The story behind the name
Avatr is a joint creation of Changan, Huawei and CATL. It was first called 安为德, one character from each partner, then renamed 阿维塔 – pronounced like 'Avatar' – to be easier to say and translate.
