Maextro S800: how a Chinese limousine overtook the S-Class at home, and what it means for buyers abroad

In January 2026 the Maextro S800 was China's best-selling luxury saloon. CarNewsChina, using delivery data, counted 2,625 S800s that month, more than the BMW 7 Series (1,188) and the Maybach S-Class (1,040) combined. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class delivered 1,005 and the Porsche Panamera 451. January was not even the S800's best month: December 2025 set its record at 4,376 units.

The S800 is the first model of Maextro, an ultra-luxury brand created by JAC and Huawei inside Huawei's HIMA alliance. JAC builds the car at the Maextro Super Factory in Hefei; Huawei supplies the driver-assistance system and the cockpit software. Volume production began in June 2025. The S800 is on sale in China in battery-electric and range-extended versions. Export FOB prices are quoted separately.

Demand has held up. At a launch event in June 2026, Huawei's Richard Yu said cumulative S800 deliveries had passed 19,000, as Maextro added the S800 Grand Design edition. Maextro has also announced more models for 2026, including MPVs built at the same plant.

What this means for buyers outside China

1. 1.There is no official Maextro dealer outside China yet. We found no announcement of an overseas launch or an export programme from the brand. Cars sold abroad today are bought in China and exported by Chinese companies.
2. 2.The export licence matters. Since 1 January 2026, China requires an export licence for battery-electric passenger cars, and new-car licences go to export companies that the maker authorises. Ask any seller which licensed company will appear on the export declaration. On CRAVEUO, the contract names that company.
3. 3.Range-extended versions are classed differently from battery-electric ones for customs and sea freight. Tell us which version you want early, because it changes paperwork, shipping class and, in many countries, import duty.
4. 4.Check the software and warranty before you pay. The S800 runs Huawei's HarmonyOS cockpit, designed for the Chinese market. Ask whether your language, maps and connected services will work in your country, and how warranty and parts will be handled where there is no local dealer. Arabic or Spanish menus and Gulf-specification items are not confirmed for export cars, so we check them one by one for each inquiry.
5. 5.Lead times follow Chinese demand. A car that sells out at home can take longer to source for export. The formal quote states the delivery time.
