Luxeed is set to get its own carmaking licence as Chery hands over its Wuhu plant

Luxeed, the luxury brand built by Chery with Huawei, is set to get its own carmaking licence. On 16 October 2026 China's industry ministry (MIIT) published batch 412 of its vehicle-maker catalogue for public comment, and Anhui Luxeed New Energy Vehicle Co. is on the list of proposed new manufacturers. The production address is No. 8 Wanjiang Avenue in Wuhu, with the remark "member company of Chery Group", and comments are open until 23 October. In the same filing Chery applied to deregister that address, so CnEVPost and Yicai read the move as the existing plant passing from Chery to Luxeed, not as new capacity.

An insider told Yicai that the plant "was given to Luxeed" by Chery, and confirmed that an independent stock listing is planned, with no date or venue. Neither the company nor the filing confirms those two points, and we found no report that approval has been granted, so treat the licence as proposed. CnEVPost says new cars are expected to carry a Luxeed badge instead of Chery's after approval.

The brand's sales explain the timing. According to CnEVPost, which compiled company figures, Luxeed sold 90,493 cars in 2025, up 56%, but only 43,623 in January to September 2026, down 24.5%. Chery's stake fell from 100% to 85% at the end of June, and two Wuhu investment partnerships hold 7.5% each. Guo Rui, a former Huawei consumer-business marketing executive, became chairman and CEO in April.

What this means for buyers outside China

1. 1.The manufacturer named on the certificate of conformity and export papers may change from Chery to Luxeed. Ask the seller which legal entity is named, and check that it matches the model approval in your country.
2. 2.Nothing in the filing changes prices, specifications or export routes. A licence is a corporate step, not a product change.
3. 3.Sales are falling at home, so confirm delivery, spare-parts and registration support for your country before paying a deposit.
4. 4.Treat the listing plan as unconfirmed until the company announces it.
