Is an electric car tax-free in Tajikistan?
Three reports give different scopes, so treat none as your final figure:
- In 2022 the lower house endorsed amendments exempting electric vehicle imports from taxes and customs duties for ten years (Asia-Plus, 2022-03-16; Khovar, 2022-08-11). We did not find the adoption date.
- A 2025 report limits the VAT and excise exemption to electric cars up to one year old (Central Asian Light, 2025-04-22). A new car fits that wording.
- Customs says electric vehicles were exempt from customs duty in 2025 (Asia-Plus, 2026-03-06). The report mentions no other taxes.
A recycling fee on imported batteries over 30 kg was approved by the lower house in December 2025, and customs says electric car batteries are covered (Asia-Plus, 2025-12-09). Whether it applies to a battery inside an imported car is not stated, so ask your broker.
