The story
The Xiaomi YU7 is Xiaomi's second car, a battery-electric mid-to-large SUV unveiled on 26 June 2025. According to Xiaomi, about 240,000 orders were locked in within 18 hours of launch, and media reports put orders above 310,000 within 72 hours, one of the strongest new-car launches seen in China in recent years. The story behind the name
Xiaomi says YU7 is pronounced 小米御7 in Chinese, where 御 (yù) evokes driving a chariot and 'riding the wind'. Xiaomi 小米 means 'millet'; Lei Jun founded the company in 2010 and moved into cars in 2021.
