Tesla China is the Chinese operation of US-based Tesla, built around the Shanghai Gigafactory in Lingang, which began production in late 2019 as China's first wholly foreign-owned car plant. It builds the Model 3 and Model Y for both domestic sale and export. In the first seven months of 2026, the plant exported 295,324 vehicles, up 130 percent, and Canada now gets Model 3 supplies from Shanghai.
