The powertrain matters in Bolivia. Bolivia's tax annex names pure-electric cars and new plug-in hybrids with a spark-ignition engine [17]. We found no Bolivian text on extended-range (EREV) cars, so their class is to be confirmed with a licensed Bolivian customs agent.

What the price is made of

Your written quote names the exact model, version, colour and trade term. A landed price has these parts:

1. China price of the car.
2. Export costs in China.
3. Sea freight to a Pacific port, then the road leg into Bolivia.
4. Customs duty.
5. Taxes (ICE and IVA).
6. Clearance: customs agent, port and transit charges.
7. Registration.

Taxes and rules in Bolivia

• Buy new. Imports are reportedly limited to cars up to one year old (Decree 2232, reported 2015-12-01, not re-verified for 2026) [22]. A separate rule defines a "new" vehicle as one whose model year equals or follows the import year (Resolution 156/2020, 2020-07-30) [23]. Which rule applies is to be confirmed with your customs agent.
• Steering. Conversion of the steering wheel abroad is barred. Our cars are factory left-hand drive [24].
• Emissions. Imported vehicles must meet Euro II or equivalent. Electric-only cars are excluded from the environmental certificate (Decree 4373, 2020-10-19) [25]. PHEV and EREV cars have an engine, so check Euro II with a licensed customs agent.
• Charging. China-market cars use a GB/T plug, AC and DC (model pages, Akyga 2025-08-27) [33]. Our Bolivia guide states no connector standard for Bolivia. Ask the exporter which inlet your version has and plan an adapter or a home charger.
• China side. Pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence from 2026-01-01 (MOFCOM Announcement 2025 No. 54, issued 2025-09-26) [16]. Plug-in hybrids and EREV cars: ask the exporter which rule covers them. Batteries ship as UN 3556, Class 9 dangerous goods, mandatory since 2026-01-01 [31].

Shipping to a landlocked country

Bolivia has no coast. In 2025, 96% of imports arrived by road, and the Arica and Iquique routes through Chile were among the three busiest (IBCE bulletin, 2026-02-05) [28]. A car shipped by sea reaches a Pacific port: Arica or Iquique in Chile, or Matarani or Ilo in Peru. It then moves overland under customs transit [29]. Your quote names the port. We found no transit times. Zeekr cars go through Peru: they land at Matarani and continue overland to Bolivia.

How inspection works

Inspection happens in three places.

1. Before you pay. You get the VIN and a walk-around video of the real car, filmed the same day.
2. Before shipping, for Bolivia. IBMETRO must issue a Certificado de Aceptación. It is required for the prior authorisation from the Vice-Ministry of Transport (IBMETRO, checked 2026-10-28) [27]. That authorisation asks for a technical sheet, a test report, a notarised sworn declaration, the manufacturer's original letter addressed to the applicant and the IBMETRO certificate (VUCE, checked 2026-10-28) [26]. For plug-in hybrids, Resolution 119/2025 covers the certificate [27]. Ask us early whether the supplier can provide the letter and the report. Both are to be confirmed for your model.
3. At customs. The importer declares the car (DUI, through SIDUNEA), pays taxes at Banco Unión within three business days, and then a green, yellow or red channel applies [19].

Registration

Plates and registration are municipal, coordinated with the police through the RUA registry (decree of 1997-05-06) [30]. We found no current checklist for Santa Cruz or La Paz. Ask a licensed Bolivian customs agent. Nobody can promise registration.

How buying works

1. Written quote. Send your country, model, version and colour. The quote names the exact car, the trade term and what the price includes.
2. Contract. You sign with the licensed exporter named in the quote. The contract names Bolivia as the destination. We take no payment before it is signed.
3. VIN and video. You get the VIN and a walk-around video of the real car, filmed the same day.
4. 30% deposit. Paid to the company account named in the contract.
5. 70% before shipping. Paid to the same account.
6. Export declaration and bill of lading. The licensed exporter declares the car in China. The carrier issues the bill of lading when the car is loaded.
7. Clearance and registration. A licensed Bolivian customs agent clears the car. You pay the taxes Bolivian customs assesses. We do not promise a delivery date.
