Plug-in hybrid, range-extender or pure electric

Our Peru guide gives no separate rule for plug-in hybrids or range-extenders. What it does say:

• Pure electric (BEV). Outside the ISC list. Duty expected 0%, with the electric subheadings to be confirmed [3][4][5].
• Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and range-extender (EREV). SUNAT's statement names new "hybrid, gas and electric" passenger cars as outside the ISC [3]. Which class your exact version falls in for ISC and for duty is not stated. Ask your broker.

What the price is made of

Structure only. Your written quote is the price. The trade term in the quote says which lines it covers. Read FOB, CIF and landed price before you compare quotes.

1. Price of the car in China. The licensed exporter names the model, version and colour.
2. Export costs in China. Declaration and delivery to the port.
3. Sea freight, and insurance if the term includes it. Duty is charged on customs value, which is FOB plus freight plus insurance [1]. Battery-electric cars are declared as UN 3556, Class 9 dangerous goods, mandatory since 2026-01-01 [12]. Ask your forwarder how a plug-in hybrid or range-extender is declared.
4. Customs duty. Expected 0% with the certificate of origin (see Key facts).
5. IGV and IPM. 18% in total.
6. IGV advance (percepción). SUNAT collects an advance on the value plus all import taxes: 10% for a first-time importer, 5% for used goods and 3.5% otherwise. The rule on when 10% applies may have changed in 2026, and whether and how the advance is credited back is to be confirmed [8].
7. Clearance. A licensed Peruvian customs agent (agente de aduanas) files for you. Add port and storage charges.
8. Homologation and registration. See the next section.

Inspection, homologation and registration

Before you pay

You get the VIN and a walk-around video of the real car, filmed the same day, before the deposit. Step 3 below.

At customs

On the customs declaration (DAM) for a new vehicle, the importer shows the vehicle identification code, the homologation registry number and the registrable features required by the National Vehicle Regulation [2]. If the importer is not the one who did the homologation, SUNAT can ask for a letter from the manufacturer or its authorised Peruvian representative, or a Conformity Certificate from a body authorised by the transport ministry [2]. We found no homologation time, fees or technical tests for Chinese models. Ask the transport ministry (MTC) or your broker.

Registration

Registration is with SUNARP. Since 2024-01-02 new imported cars can be registered digitally by a notary or an authorised agent of the importer or dealer. The owner then gets the electronic vehicle card and an order to have the plates made (Gestión, 2023-11-17) [9]. Fees and exact steps are to be confirmed.

Charging and shipping

• Charging. China-market cars use the GB/T plug, AC and DC [16]. Our Peru guide found no connector standard for Peru. Ask the exporter which inlet your version has, and plan an adapter or a home charger.
• Port. Sources quote transit to Callao, near Lima. A forwarder page gives container transit from Shanghai or Shenzhen of about 25 to 35 days on direct services and 30 to 40 days with transshipment [10]. COSCO announced a direct service to the new port of Chancay at about 23 days from Shanghai (Peru Retail, 2025-01-08, an operator claim) [11]. We found no roll-on/roll-off transit time. Ask your forwarder for current sailings. We do not promise a delivery date.

How buying works

1. Written quote. Send your country, model, version and colour. The licensed exporter's quote names the exact car, the trade term and what the price includes.
2. Contract. You sign with the licensed exporter named in the quote. The contract names your destination country. We take no payment before it is signed.
3. VIN and walk-around video. Before you pay, you get the VIN and a walk-around video of the real car, filmed the same day, with the VIN plate visible.
4. 30% deposit. Paid after signing, to the company account named in the contract only.
5. 70% before shipping. Paid to the same account.
6. Export declaration. The licensed exporter declares the car in China.
7. Bill of lading, clearance and registration. The carrier issues the bill of lading when the car is loaded. A licensed Peruvian customs agent then clears the car, and you pay the taxes SUNAT assesses. Registration is with SUNARP.

Check that the seller on the contract, the exporter on the customs papers and the owner of the bank account are the same name (our advice). If bank details change, confirm by phone on a number you already hold. Warranty is the maker's, in writing. CRAVEUO EV Export does not promise warranty. This is our reading of the 2009 schedule, and the electric subheadings are to be confirmed with a licensed customs broker [5][6][7]. IGV 16% plus IPM 2% makes 18% [1]. SUNAT states that new hybrid, gas and electric passenger cars are outside the ISC [3][4]. Each model must be homologated for Peru [2]. Confirm every line with a licensed customs broker.
