How to import a Chinese electric car into Armenia (2026)

CRAVEUO EV Export · Sources last checked 2026-11-01 · General information, not legal advice. We do not clear customs in Armenia. Nothing here is a promise or a quote.

Quick answer

Timing decides this one. The 2026 quota for 0% import duty ran out for private buyers and other non-dealers on 10 October 2026, the State Revenue Committee said. After a quota runs out, reports and brokers point to the standard 15% duty. VAT of 20% is waived until 31 December 2026 for electric cars built after 31 December 2023. We found nothing yet on a 2027 quota or on VAT in 2027. Right-hand-drive cars cannot be registered. Before you order, ask a broker what applies on your clearance date, not today's date.

Key facts

How the 2026 quota ran out

Our reading: the 4,500 is already inside these figures. 23 cars left at 99.86% used implies a pool near 16,500, which is 12,000 plus 4,500. So we do not expect a separate pool still to be open. That is our arithmetic, not a committee statement.

Declarations already filed were released by order of time, down to the minute (Noyan Tapan). What happens to a car in transit: not found.

Conditions on the 0% quota

The decision limits the relief to people who live permanently in Armenia. Re-export to other EAEU states is barred, and the car may not pass to residents of certain other member states (Decision 111; Alta; both search excerpts, the decision itself not read). Our reading: check this before any later sale. Quota codes are 8703 80 000 3 and 8703 80 000 5.

VAT in 2026 and after

Law NK-487-N of 17 Dec 2025 sets the waiver (Revenue Committee). The committee's short text does not repeat the build-date line, but Armenpress, citing the committee, says from 1 Feb 2026 it covers cars built after 31 Dec 2023. A dealer guide says the same in other words (eDrive). A car built earlier pays 20%. The waiver has been renewed before, but we found no decision for 2027.

Certification and registration

Armenia is in the EAEU, whose vehicle safety regulation is TR CU 018/2011. How Armenian road police apply it to a private China-market electric car: not found. The papers named by a broker are a sales contract or invoice, the technical passport, transport documents and, where needed, a certificate of origin (Brokers.am). Check the production date on the technical passport.

We found no age limit for electric cars. The age effect comes from the 2024-or-later rule above.

Charging and route

A dealer says public chargers mix Type 2 and CCS2 with some GB/T, and suggests an adapter for GB/T cars (eDrive). No official connector rule found. The same guide says cars arrive through Georgian ports, with 50 to 120 days in transit. Armenia has no sea coast.

How an order works

  1. Ask a broker in Yerevan which duty and VAT apply on the likely clearance date. Plan for a car that clears in 2027.
  2. Check the build date and the 2024-or-later line.
  3. Get a written quote from the export company named in the contract.
  4. Sign the contract. Nothing is paid before it is signed, and payment goes only to the company account on the invoice.
  5. Clear the car, pay what is assessed, and register it with the road police.
