Exports go through a Chinese export company (export agency, named in the contract), which handles the export licence, customs, inspection and shipping. Since 2026 pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence.

The story
The Li Auto L9 is the brand's full-size range-extender SUV. In April 2023 it earned five stars in the C-NCAP crash test. The L9 took part in the 2021-version C-NCAP test cycle and passed with five stars. It is Li Auto's flagship six-seat family SUV, using range-extender power to combine long-distance range with everyday electric driving.

The story behind the name
Li Auto 理想 means 'ideal', and it is also a play on founder Li Xiang (李想), whose name sounds the same. The L-number shows size: the L9 is its largest family SUV.
