The story behind the name
'Tiangong' (天工, 'heavenly craft') echoes Tiangong Kaiwu, Song Yingxing's 17th-century encyclopaedia of technology, and names Hongqi's new-energy Tiangong line. Hongqi 红旗 means 'Red Flag'; FAW built the first Hongqi in 1958 and the marque has long served as China's state limousine.
