Rate USD 1 = CNY 6.72 (2026-10-06). Duty on CIF, excise on CIF + duty, VAT on CIF + duty + excise + other levies.
Battery-electric cars, and range-extenders with at least 200 km of electric range, are exempt from import duty and VAT with an exemption certificate (IDEC); hybrids and vehicles of US$100,000 or more are not (PRNigeria, 31 Jul 2026). Range-extenders are still estimated here at the normal rates.
Petrol cars, plug-in hybrids and range extenders: duty + levy about 35% in total (to be confirmed); right-hand drive banned; used cars up to 15 years old.

Exports go through a Chinese export company (export agency, named in the contract), which handles the export licence, customs, inspection and shipping. Since 2026 pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence.

The story behind the name
Changan 长安 means 'lasting peace' and is the old name of Xi'an, China's ancient capital. The company traces its history to a Shanghai arsenal founded by Li Hongzhang in 1862, making it one of China's oldest carmakers.
