Exports go through a Chinese export company (export agency, named in the contract), which handles the export licence, customs, inspection and shipping. Since 2026 pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence.

The story behind the name
At home it is the Song Plus, named after the Song dynasty in BYD's 'Dynasty' series. For Europe BYD renamed it Seal U, borrowing the Ocean-series 'Seal' with a U for utility, while DM-i stands for 'Dual Mode – intelligent'.
