From 2026 battery-electric cars are exempt from import duty and VAT (electrive, 11 Aug 2026); sources conflict on plug-in hybrids and range extenders, which are still shown at the normal rates — to be confirmed.

Exports go through a Chinese export company (export agency, named in the contract), which handles the export licence, customs, inspection and shipping. Since 2026 pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence.

The story behind the name
Changan 长安 means 'lasting peace' and is the old name of Xi'an, China's ancient capital. The company traces its history to a Shanghai arsenal founded by Li Hongzhang in 1862, making it one of China's oldest carmakers.
