From 2026 battery-electric cars are exempt from import duty and VAT (electrive, 11 Aug 2026); sources conflict on plug-in hybrids and range extenders, which are still shown at the normal rates — to be confirmed.

Exports go through a Chinese export company (export agency, named in the contract), which handles the export licence, customs, inspection and shipping. Since 2026 pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence.

BYD's Ocean Series cars are named after sea creatures. It was first shown as the Destroyer 07 before being launched as the Seal DM-i in 2023 and renamed Seal 07.
