The story behind the name

BYD began as a battery maker in 1995; the letters were later given the English backronym 'Build Your Dreams'. The Seal belongs to BYD's 'Ocean' series, whose cars are named after sea creatures, alongside the Dolphin and Seagull.

How to buy the BYD Seal from China

  1. Choose the version and colour.
  2. A licensed Chinese exporter sends you a written quote.
  3. Sign the contract; you pay only after signing.
  4. Inspect the car, or see it on a video call, before it ships.
  5. It ships by RoRo or container and is delivered to you (DAP); a local customs agent clears it.

In the EU or the UK? We only export to private buyers for their own use, not to dealers. A China-market car needs individual approval (IVA) in your country before it can be registered — cost and time vary by country; EU import duty is 10%, plus your country's VAT. If a model can't get approval, we tell you straight away.

What is the BYD Seal price in China?

BYD's China website does not list the original Seal today, only the newer Seal 06, 07 and 08 (checked 2026-10-28).

What is the range of the BYD Seal?

BYD Europe rates the 82.5 kWh Seal at 570 km (Design RWD) and 520 km (Excellence AWD) on the WLTP cycle (BYD media, 2023-10-24). Our model page labels these figures CLTC in one table; they are WLTP. The China-market Seal was rated 650-700 km CLTC (CarNewsChina database, 2026-10-28).

What are the BYD Seal's specifications?

The Seal is 4,800 mm long, 1,875 mm wide and 1,460 mm high on a 2,920 mm wheelbase and seats 5. The RWD makes 230 kW (0-100 km/h in 5.9 s); the AWD makes 390 kW (3.8 s) (BYD media, 2023-10-24).
