Exports go through a Chinese export company (export agency, named in the contract), which handles the export licence, customs, inspection and shipping. Since 2026 pure-electric passenger cars need a Chinese export licence.

The story behind the name
The Dolphin launched BYD's 'Ocean' series, named after marine animals, with styling by Wolfgang Egger's team drawing on the dolphin's curves. BYD itself stands for 'Build Your Dreams'.
