How to import a Chinese electric car into Bahrain (2026)
CRAVEUO EV Export · Sources last checked 2026-10-30 · General information, not legal advice. We do not clear customs in Bahrain. Nothing here is a promise or a quote.
Quick answer
This is a short page because we could confirm only one rule from an official text: Bahrain's 2021 registration rule for older private cars. A private car over 5 years old can be registered after a BD 1,000 file-opening fee. A car over 10 years from its manufacture date is not registered unless the traffic authority finds it necessary. We give no duty or VAT figures here, because we did not open an official Bahraini source for them. Ask a Bahraini customs broker before you order.

The used-car rule
Order 17 of 2021, issued on 31 Jan 2021, amends Article 98 of the traffic law's implementing regulations. It is a rule about registration. We did not find a separate rule about import. By our reading, an old car could clear customs and still fail at registration, so check before you buy.
What we did not find
- Customs duty and VAT in a Bahraini official source. The tax authority's site did not open for us.
- Any duty or VAT relief for electric cars.
- Whether a private person may import a car.
- The ministry's list of GSO certificate requirements, and Ministerial Order 96 of 2015 on vehicle technical requirements. Both pages were blocked.
- Whether a China-market version is accepted. No Gulf official document we found names China-market cars.
- How the Gulf certificate applies to used electric cars.
- Whether right-hand drive is banned. The 2021 order mentions it, but we did not read the articles that set the rule.
- A mandatory fast-charge plug.
- A clear rule on parallel imports.
- The customs website, which did not connect.
How an order works
- Ask a Bahraini customs broker who may import the car, which documents it needs, and which taxes apply.
- Send your city, model and version through the inquiry form. We tell you whether we can supply that car before any contract.
- Get a quote from the licensed Chinese export company named in the contract.
- Sign the contract. Nothing is paid before it is signed, and payment goes only to the company account on the invoice.
