How to import a Chinese electric car into Jordan (2026)

Quick answer

Since 1 Nov 2025 a passenger car must meet European, US, Gulf or Saudi technical rules and carry one of five listed documents. China's CCC and GB papers are not on the list as reported, so by our reading a China-market version without a listed document will not pass. A pure-electric car that has passed 3 years, counting the year of clearance, cannot be imported. Pure-electric cars pay a 27% special tax plus 16% general sales tax. Chinese-made cars are not banned, so confirm the document before anything else.

The document comes first

The head of the standards body said in June 2025 that the rule does not depend on origin, and Chinese cars are accepted if they meet the requirements (Al Wakeel, press). So the test is the document, not the factory.

That leaves the main risk with China-market cars. As reported, CCC and GB are not accepted documents. That a China-market version without a listed document fails is our inference; we have not read Instructions 5/2025 in full. The rule covers new and used cars (Al Wakeel, press).

Even if a model holds a European or Gulf certificate, we did not find whether a trader may use it, or whether the brand must authorise that. An April 2025 version let the standards body's board set the terms for European approvals (Al Wakeel, press). We did not find those terms, or whether the current text keeps them. Press in October 2026 shows the rules still in use (JO24). A standards agreement between Jordan and the Gulf body, signed in October 2026, covers vehicle conformity; its effect is unknown (Petra).

Some vehicles are also barred, per press: salvage and junk title cars, flood, fire or major accident cars, former taxis, police cars and school buses, altered VINs, right-hand drive, and engines converted to gas.

How the 3-year rule counts

Petra's text says electric cars are barred once 3 years have passed, including the year of clearance. That is not the same as 3 years from the build date. The age limit names electric cars only.

We read it two ways. If it means 3 calendar years including clearance, a car cleared in 2026 can be from 2024, 2025 or 2026. If it means more than 3 years, 2023 may also pass. We did not find whether it uses the build year or the model year. Confirm in writing.

Some reports call this a 2026 rule. The cabinet decided it on 28 Jun 2025 and it took effect on 1 Nov 2025; Jordan News gives 2 Nov. "Electric" means driven only by an electric motor in the version we saw, which has since been replaced. We did not find how range-extender and plug-in cars are classed.

Taxes

The 27% replaced an older schedule that would have reached 55% over three years (US Commerce). Customs began applying it on 29 Jun 2025 (Roya News, press). Older articles with 10%, 40% or 55% are out of date. Press in July 2026 still used 27% as the base and we saw no later change, so we read it as current.

The 16% figure comes from a cabinet decision of 28 Jun 2025 that ended the exemption, per Jordan News. We did not find whether the 27% and the 16% stack, or on what base. For that reason we give no total. A 16% special tax reported in July 2026 is for US-origin cars only and does not apply to Chinese cars.

Risks with parallel imports

Dealers' representatives say over 100,000 cars came in from the Chinese market before the rule. In 2026 registration and transfer of one parallel-imported model, the JAC E10X, were suspended after breakdowns, and customs stopped releasing it. Parallel cars usually have no factory warranty. These are press reports, partly from the trade (Al-Ain, 2026-09-17).

Charging and shipping

We found no official plug rule. A third-party table lists Type 2 and CCS2. China-market cars charge on GB/T, so ask which plug your car has before you order.

Cars come in through Aqaba, which handled 142,955 RoRo import vehicles in the first 9 months of 2026 (Arab News, summary only). We have no freight rate we can stand behind.

Models to ask about

China guide prices, not delivered prices. All are pure electric. Confirm the document first: a listed model does not mean your version holds one, and a China-market car may not qualify.

Send your city, model and version through the inquiry form. We tell you whether we can supply that car before any contract.

How an order works

  1. Ask a Jordanian customs broker and the standards body, in writing, which document your version needs and who may use it.
  2. Check the year against the 3-year rule.
  3. Get a quote from the licensed Chinese export company named in the contract.
  4. Sign the contract. Nothing is paid before it is signed, and payment goes only to the company account on the invoice.
  5. Your broker clears the car and you pay the taxes assessed. Registration requirements under the current text: not found.
