How to import a Chinese electric car into Turkmenistan (2026)

Diese Seite ist auf Englisch.

CRAVEUO EV Export · Sources last checked 2026-10-30 · General information, not legal advice. We do not clear customs in Turkmenistan. Nothing here is a promise or a quote.

This is a short page because the official sources cover only part of the process.

Quick answer

Turkmenistan's customs site says pure-electric cars are exempt from customs duty and hybrids get a 50% reduction. The same site bars right-hand-drive cars and cars over 5 years old. We did not find who may import a car, the import VAT, or the rules on registration and charging, so get these answers in Turkmenistan before you order.

Key facts

  • Customs duty, pure electric

Exempt (customs site; listed as Elektromobiller in a 2020 customs order)

  • Customs duty, hybrid

    50% off the normal rate: 1%, 5%, 12.5%, 20% or 25% by age (customs site; 2020 order)

  • Excise

USD 0.3 per cc for passenger cars (customs site). An electric car has no engine volume, so we read this as zero. The site does not say so

  • Customs fee

0.2% of customs value (customs site)

  • Banned

Right-hand-drive cars, right-hand-drive cars converted to left, and cars over 5 years old, not counting the year of manufacture (customs page for individuals)

  • Who may import

Not found. The customs site has procedures for individuals and companies, but we found no rule on who may import a car for permanent use or whether a licence is needed

  • Import VAT

    Not found

  • Registration

    Not found

  • Charging rules

    Not found

The customs pages carry no dates, and we found no recent outside check of them. The age and steering rules do not separate electric cars. We read them as applying to electric cars too.

The duty wording can be read in two ways. A separate annex lists electric cars with no condition, so we read the exemption as covering all of them.

What we could not confirm

We found no source for rumours of an electric-car ban. Other limits appear only in a forwarder's guide or older press, not on the official pages: a 1,300 cc minimum, limits on brands, and limits on colour. Ask before you order.

How an order works

  1. Ask a broker or the customs office in Turkmenistan who can import the car, and what VAT and registration apply.
  2. Check that the car is left-hand drive and within the age limit.
  3. Send your city, model and version through the inquiry form. We tell you whether we can supply that car before any contract.
  4. If we can, get a quote from the licensed Chinese export company named in the contract. Nothing is paid before it is signed, and payment goes only to the company account on the invoice.
